Over 450 Participants Attend Guest Lecture by Prof. Tsuneo Yamada from The Open University of Japan
Jakarta, November 7, 2025 — The Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FKIP) of the Open University (UT) successfully held a Visiting Lecture entitled “Learning Management Based on AI-Powered Digital Ecosystem from a Teachers’ View,” featuring international speaker Prof. Tsuneo Yamada from The Open University of Japan, who also serves as an Executive Board Member of the 1EdTech Japan Society.
The event, which took place on Friday, November 7, 2025, in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UT, was attended by 454 participants: 273 via YouTube Live Streaming, 101 via Zoom, and 80 in person.

In his remarks, the Dean of FKIP UT, Prof. Dr. Ucu Rahayu, M.Sc., expressed his appreciation for this collaboration.
“We greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn directly from a world-renowned figure in the field of educational technology and digital transformation. Prof. Yamada’s presence enriches our perspectives in realizing a smarter and more adaptive open education,” said Prof. Ucu.
In his presentation, Prof. Yamada explained the role of artificial intelligence (AI)-based digital ecosystems in transforming the learning paradigm and educational quality management. He presented two major case studies in Japan: the GIGA School Initiative and MEXCBT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Computer-Based Testing), which have successfully implemented digital technology for millions of students.

Furthermore, Prof. Yamada introduced the implementation of Digital Credentials such as Open Badges, Comprehensive Learner Records (CLR), and CASE (Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange) as the foundation for the development of micro-credentials and nano-degrees. He also reviewed the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which enables connections between AI agents and various learning data sources.
The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Lidwina Sri A., S.Pd., M.Ed., emphasized that the ideas presented were highly relevant to the direction of digital transformation in Indonesian education.

“The Open University, as a pioneer in distance learning, has great potential to adapt the concept of AI-enhanced personalized learning to expand access and improve the quality of learning,” she said.
The event was moderated by Fachry Ali Wibowo, S.Pd., who emphasized that this Visiting Lecture is part of the Faculty of Education Teacher and Training (FKIP) UT’s commitment to continuous innovation and expanding its international academic network.
“We hope that Prof. Yamada’s insights can inspire educators and researchers to utilize technology for more effective and inclusive learning,” he concluded.

Through this event, FKIP UT reaffirmed its role as a pioneer in distance learning in Southeast Asia, which continues to transform into a sustainable AI-based digital learning ecosystem.
